More about who we are

The GNOMES were established on December 2nd 2013. Since those early days we have helped over 150 clients with hundreds of jobs. Our volunteers are people just like you and have all been vetted by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and are covered by our public liability insurance and privacy policy. We receive no funding from any charity or local government, so we rely on donations from villagers and have administrative support from the Bedfordshire Rural Community Charity.

The assistance and help offered to residents by the GNOMES has no defined boundaries other than those determined by the skills of our volunteers.

  • This might be a lift to the shops,
  • collecting a prescription,
  • it could be something as simple as changing a light bulb,
  • writing a letter or filling in a form.
  • We also offer a befriending service – a listening ear whenever you need one, a visit for a cuppa and a chat.
  • GNOME volunteers can help take you out for an occasional walk and can help with pet care when you are unable to do so.
  • GNOMES also participate in the Nominated Neighbour and Message In A Bottle Schemes.

Our volunteers will not charge for their time but a contribution of 45p a mile, to cover the cost of fuel, will be expected from those receiving lifts. As we are a not-For-Profit organisation, donations are always gratefully received to cover our insurance and admin costs.
COVID-19 LATEST: Our activities are subject to on-going restrictions and guidance. Our phone holders will be able to advise at time of enquiry.

How can you help us?

  • Use our services; the more we help, the better we become, so please contact us.
  • Become a volunteer. It can be a very fulfilling experience. Not only will you help people in the village, you will make new friends and learn new skills. If you have time to spare, no matter how little, it could make a difference, not only to a villager’s life but probably yours too.
  • Donate – give us a call to find out how to donate.
